BoSoma Dance Company’s power, passion and versatility comes to the Gloucester Stage for their 16th Annual Spring Season. Artistic Director and Choreographer Katherine Hooper brings the “Best of BoSoma” to this intimate theatre in the round, highlighting the athleticism and grace of the BoSoma dancers in an up-close and personal setting. The company will perform signature works including Convergence, Tapestry and Parachute, dressed in the exquisite costuming by Gloucester-based Jen Greeke and NYC-based designer Chris Hynds. Returning to the stage will be an excerpt of the introspective piece Convergence, which was inspired by Anila Qyayyum Agha’s installation “Intersections,” on display at the Peabody Essex Museum in 2016 while BoSoma performed within the Rodin exhibit, “Transforming Sculpture”. “Intersections” offered people of all cultures a room of reflection through light and beauty. Hooper, in collaboration with costume designer, Chris Hynds, created a story of a group of individuals inhabiting sacred ground as they work together to move forward through resilience, empathy and a commitment to making collective change. In addition, the jazz inspired piece, Power, will be performed showcasing a trio of individuals finding power in numbers and strength through music and dance. The energy-inspiring Tapestry: 3rd Movement will return to stage with its stunning “wearable art” costumes by Jen Greeke. Rounding out the show will be Hooper’s newest group work, Parachute, which is a powerful display of explosive movement, spatial design, and ‘skirtography’ that debuted this past fall at the Larcom Theatre. A new section of Parachute is now being developed to be premiered at the spring season performance adding another layer to the story line. The brilliantly colored costumes made of lightweight parachute fabric, designed by Jen Greeke of Harpy Fashions, create the feeling of floating and diving through space.

BDC is excited to announce the Opening Act for our Spring Season Performance will be the BoSoma Youth Company! The Youth Company consists of dancers ages 8-18 who are committed to an intensive dance education combined with community outreach and performance. The dancers from the Senior BYC will be bringing the excitement and energy of Hooper's fan-favorite Train Stop Shuffle to the stage this March!
