BoSoma Dance Company’s (BDC) power, passion and versatility comes to the Windhover Performing Arts Center this summer to kick off their 18th Annual Season. After a challenging year for the performing arts, Artistic Director and Choreographer Katherine Hooper and her company dancers are exhilarated to be back on stage surrounded by the beautiful outdoor setting bringing their dance work back to their audiences in a safe way.  Highlighting the athleticism and grace of the BDC dancers, the company will perform signature works including Convergence and Parachute, dressed in the exquisite costuming by Gloucester based designer Jen Greeke and NYC based designer Chris Hynds. Returning to the stage will be an excerpt of the introspective piece Convergence, which was inspired by Anila Qyayyum Agha’s installation Intersections, on display at the Peabody Essex Museum in 2016 while BDC performed within the Rodin exhibit Transforming Sculpture. Intersections offered people of all cultures a room of reflection through light and beauty. Hooper, in collaboration with costume designer, Hynds, created a story of a group of individuals inhabiting sacred ground as they work together to move forward through resilience, empathy and a commitment to making collective change. In addition, Hooper’s work Parachute, a powerful display of explosive movement, spatial design, and ‘skirtography’ that debuted at the Larcom Theatre in the fall of 2019 will grace the stage. A new section of Parachute has been crafted which will premiere at the summer season performance adding another layer to the story line. The brilliantly colored costumes made of lightweight parachute fabric, designed by Greeke, create the feeling of floating and diving through space. In addition, BDC dancer Tony Tucker will be premiering his inspiring and energizing work on the company at this summer show. Tucker's expertise in a broad range of dance styles including Hip Hop, African, Ballet and Contemporary blend together to create a unique piece rooted in his experience as an artist and a human being. After 11+ years performing with BDC, we are excited to support his choreographic voice and bring his work to the stage! We will also be welcoming back Lindsey Leduc, former Giordano Dance Chicago performer, to restage her piece Lost it to Trying that was presented back in 2014. Leduc is excited for the opportunity stating, "In a time like this when you don't know when the 'show' is actually going to happen, [creating work] is like planting a garden. You are planting a seed because you believe in the future." To round out the program, the company will also perform two new works by Hooper, which are in the process of development now and in collaboration with costume designer Greeke set to Billy Joel’s classic song Vienna and the other to Paki Palmieri’s Arcadeya. Please join us for our thrilling return to the live stage after a year and a half at the historic Windhover Performing Arts Center in Rockport.
